Gary Neville has given his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp vs Pep Guardiola. Just who is the best in the world right now?

Jurgen Klopp vs Pep Guardiola is the battle that defines this era of the Premier League. In fact, it goes back further than that - they battled in the Bundesliga, too.

The pair have similar styles in some ways, preferring possession-based, pressing football. Both have been massively successful, too, and will go down as true legends in English football.

But there are differences. Guardiola has built his managerial career on the back of chasing perfection. He had one of the greatest squads in history at Barcelona and took them to sensational heights. Bayern Munich were Treble winners when he got there, but arguably improved the quality of their football further.

And at City, Guardiola took a club with great wealth to great heights. They've achieved far more under him than any other manager, and he can pick up the ideal player for his near-perfect system virtually at will.

Klopp is different. He took struggling Mainz and Borussia Dortmund sides, turning them into the greatest teams in their respective histories. The German then took a Liverpool side that hadn't won the title for 30 years - and had just finished 7th - and made them the best team in the world.

That ability to do more with less is what Gary Neville feels separates Klopp from Guardiola. Speaking on the Daily Ketchup Podcast, Neville was asked to pick who the best in the world is - and here's how he responded:

“I’d say Jurgen Klopp. Jurgen Klopp works with a budget which is far less than Pep Guardiola. Pep Guardiola’s a genius, and he’ll be the one who’s remembered forever more. But Jurgen Klopp, for me, is an amazing manager.

“If you said to me which manager could I bring to Manchester United tomorrow, it would be Jurgen Klopp.”

It's really the one massive separation. Guardiola has always had an ideal situation in front of him - one where he is fine-tuning for perfection. Klopp hasn't exactly needed to build from the ground up but the foundations he's worked with have been far, far lower.
