Offering a candid appraisal of Jurgen Klopp's time at Liverpool, former Manchester United stalwart Gary Neville has admitted he "can't wait" for the German's impending departure.

Following Liverpool's 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday, where Alexis Mac Allister's penalty cancelled out John Stones' opener, the Reds missed the opportunity to reclaim top spot in the league.

Despite dominating the second half and creating numerous scoring opportunities, including several for Luis Diaz, Liverpool failed to secure all three points, leaving Arsenal with a slender lead at the summit on goal difference.

Neville, speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, lauded Klopp's impact on Liverpool's resurgence, contrasting it with Pep Guardiola's tenure at Manchester City. "They're both exceptional managers," Neville remarked. "But Klopp's connection with the players, staff, and the city itself sets him apart. He impacts lives beyond the football field."

A big void

Expressing admiration for Klopp's charisma and leadership, Neville acknowledged the imminent loss of a revered figure from the Premier League landscape. "Klopp is a giant of a character," Neville said.

"His departure will be felt not only by Liverpool but by the entire league. He's one of the great leaders in world football."

However, Neville couldn't hide his delight regarding Klopp's exit, citing his allegiance to Manchester United. "As a United fan, I selfishly can't wait for him to leave," Neville admitted.

"His presence makes Liverpool formidable, and his departure will level the playing field."

Outstanding leadership

Reflecting on Klopp's impact, Neville stressed the manager's role in Liverpool's current title bid. "Liverpool's resurgence this season is largely due to Klopp's leadership," Neville explained. "He extracts that extra percent from players, a quality few possess. His departure will undoubtedly alter the Premier League landscape."

As the title race intensifies with just 10 games remaining, Klopp's impending departure adds a layer of intrigue to Liverpool's pursuit of glory, leaving fans to savour the remaining moments of his remarkable tenure while contemplating a future without the charismatic German at the helm.
