Jurgen Klopp has overseen some of the greatest Liverpool teams there have ever been during his reign at Anfield.

Having lifted the Premier League, Champions League and multiple domestic cups during a period in which football is more competitive than ever, the German and his players have deservedly earned legendary status on Merseyside.

However, Liverpool's current success shouldn't detract from the iconic tales of past players that have donned the fabled red shirt, with the club having boasted some of the greatest players to have walked the face of the planet.

There have been plenty of debates over the years regarding which iteration of Liverpool has been the greatest, with former footballers turned pundits Gary Lineker and Micah Richards recently pondering which ex-Reds would thrive in Jurgen Klopp's current squad.

Debating which former Liverpool players he would like to chuck into Klopp's team on the Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker initially said: "[Steven] Gerrard."

Richards responded: "[Kenny] Dalglish, [Alan] Hansen? Hansen and [Virgil] Van Dijk!"

Lineker then replied: "“Ian Rush would have to be there. [Luis] Suarez. Take your pick!"

The thought of an all-time Liverpool XI is a tantalising prospect, with plenty of the Reds' current side in contention for the starting lineup.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk and Alisson would certainly be in the discussion, with Klopp in the mix to coach a dream XI.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher picked his all-time Liverpool side two years ago, choosing Van Dijk, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold from the current squad.

Carragher also chose Gerrard, Dalglish, Hansen and Rush, as well as Ray Clemence, Graeme Souness, Steve Nicol and John Barnes.
