Gary Lineker has explained what he thinks Arne Slot did against Ipswich Town that was completely different to how Jurgen Klopp worked at Liverpool.

It's a new era at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp's beaming face is no longer standing on the touchlines in Liverpool tracksuit bottoms. Instead, it's Arne Slot who now beams from the sidelines and there are distinct differences between him and his predecessor.

Not just in appearance, but also in the way Slot wants his team to play. That was apparent in Liverpool's opening Premier League game against Ipswich with the Dutchman instructing his players to play out from the back with quick and short passes, while also having a more advanced midfielder running between the lines.

But it was not just in his style that Slot was different to Klopp according Gary Lineker, but also in the way he behaved.

One of the most interesting aspects of Slot's first game in the Premier League was the start difference between Liverpool's first and second half against Ipswich.

In the first, Liverpool started off sluggish and looked vulnerable. Meanwhile, in the second they completely seized control of the game.

Slot also wasn't afraid to make a half-time change, replacing Jarell Quansah, who in Slot's own words wasn't winning enough duels with Ibrahima Konate.

This change and Slot's explanation was something that stood-out to Lineker who addressed the Dutchman's comments on the Rest is Football podcast.

“That speaking out publicly about a player’s performance is not something that you would have ever heard, I don’t think, from Jurgen Klopp," Lineker said.

"So there’s already a slight difference there. I am always slightly nervous when managers or coaches are publicly critical of their players.”

It's an interesting comment from Lineker. Although, in all fairness to Slot, there was no malicious intent behind his comments about Quansah, and the talented Liverpool youngster will only learn from the Liverpool coach's feedback.
