Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has ripped into Liverpool centre-back Nathaniel Phillips.

The former Aston Villa forward does not believe that the 24-year-old is good enough to consistently play in the Premier League.

Agbonlahor further added that Phillips would be better suited to the Championship.

“Nat Phillips is not a Premier League centre-half,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“I’ve watched a bit of him now at Liverpool and he’s not good enough.

“For me, he’s a Championship player at best, he’s not good enough for the Premier League, especially at the top end.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We don't agree with Agbonlahor's comments regarding Phillips. In fact, we believe that they are ridiculous.

Phillips was given a good opportunity to play for Liverpool's first-team during the 2020-21 campaign because of injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The centre-back averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.29 across 17 Premier League matches last season.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Phillips is good enough to play in England's top division of football.

Also, a few Premier League clubs reportedly showed interest in Phillips last summer.

If the defender was not up to playing at the highest level, then teams would not have been looking at him.
