FSG and FAMOUS Liverpool superfan set to invest MILLIONS into new team
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have received a mixed reception from Reds supporters.
Having taken over the club in 2010 headed by American John W. Henry, they have been present from the woes of Roy Hodgson to the highs of Jurgen Klopp.
People have been critical of their commitment to the club through transfers, sponsorships and so on.
Now FSG are reportedly wanting to invest in Las Vegas, spearheaded by a well known international Liverpool fan.
FSG set to invest in new NBA franchise
The rumour actually started from FSG being initially interested in purchasing the Boston Celtics, a basketball team based in the Eastern Conference of the NBA.
FSG also has deep ties to Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who joined FSG’s ownership group in 2021.
LeBron is also a huge Liverpool fan, making his allegiance known in multiple interviews and conversations.
However, this deal would not be eligible for James as he is still an active player in the NBA so he wouldn’t be able to part own a team while he is still playing. Therefore, these talks have since been squashed.
Now, it has been stated that FSG are more interested in acquiring an NBA team in Las Vegas.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the plan is to "have the project helmed" by James, "when he finally decides to call time on his career."
This news may frustrate fellow Reds. FSG have been reluctant to invest into the club and are now shelling their money into a whole new team in a completely different sport.
Henry and his partners have been harshly criticised in recent years for their handling of their baseball team The New York Red Sox’ payroll, further highlighting their inadequacy with money.
Either way, those who follow Arne Slot’s men will be hoping FSG show this much interest in the Reds as they do to basketball and the NBA.
