"Frightening" - Michah Richards impressed with Luis Diaz in FA Cup final

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards was impressed with Luis Diaz's performance in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium last Saturday.

Despite the fact that the Liverpool winger did not score or create a goal against Chelsea, he was lively when he got on the ball, especially in the first-half.

With that being the case, Richards praised Diaz whilst covering the game for BBC Sport.

“Diaz has been frightening – Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah don’t quite know when to go and when to stay,” he said (17:44).

“Chalobah has been left isolated one v one against one of the best players on the pitch and Chelsea have got lucky. The way Liverpool apply the pressure to prevent Chelsea getting out has been brilliant to watch."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Like Richards, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was also pleased with Diaz's performance against Chelsea last weekend.

“What a boy, what a story, what a player…but he should have scored!” he said, as quoted by This Is Anfield.

“I think we agree, he agrees probably.

“The speed he has is insane, not to forget he played on the side of Chalobah and Reece James, and getting in a situation like this is absolutely unlikely.

“The big chance he had in the first-half, I think it was a pass from Trent (Alexander-Arnold) – we can talk about his performance as well, by the way – and he should have scored in that moment, with his quality.

“That’s how it is, but what a player, he’s outstanding.”

Overall, Diaz has been exceptional for Liverpool this season. The winger, who joined the club from Porto for a transfer fee of £40.50 million back in January, has scored six goals and registered four assists in 24 appearances for the Reds.

Diaz has already won two major trophies with Liverpool.

The exciting thing about the Colombia international is that he is only 25 years of age. Therefore, he is entering the prime years of his career.

We look forward to watching Diaz heading into the future.
