Four-goal Liverpool finally come out on top at bogey ground

Liverpool's incident-packed 4-1 win away at Brentford on Saturday afternoon brought an end to a particular curse that had been haunting the Reds.

Prior to today's game, Liverpool had never managed to clinch a victory at the Gtech Community Stadium, making it their very own bogey ground.

Despite being one of English football's top performers since the Bees' promotion to the Premier League in 2021, the West London side's stadium was the only current Premier League ground at which the Reds had never won - until now.

This record may not come as a great surprise, though. Given that Brentford are only in their third season back in the top flight and the stadium only opened for the start of the 2020/21 season, Jurgen Klopp's side had only played there twice before in the league.

In fact, the short history between Liverpool and Brentford at this venue only dates back to September 2021, when the two sides battled to a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The Reds' struggles continued in their most recent visit in January 2023, suffering a disappointing 3-1 defeat.

A convincing win

While most of the post-match attention at the Gtech Community Stadium will be about the injuries suffered by Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez, the lifting of this particular hoodoo will come as a nice consolation.

The Reds finally broke the curse with what turned out to be an easy win. Despite the disruption caused by the first-half injuries, Klopp's men nonetheless went in at the break a goal up thanks to an excellent Darwin Nunez chip ten minutes before half time.

After the restart, substitute Mohamed Salah, making his first Liverpool appearance since New Year's Day, laid on the second for Alexis Mac Allister, before getting on the scoresheet himself just 13 minutes later with a well-taken finish.

The Bees got a goal back through Ivan Toney in the 75th minute, but Cody Gakpo sealed the emphatic win with the Reds' fourth goal just five minutes from time.
