Nunez has had his moments at Liverpool but he has never really been consistent enough to make his mark. This season he has clearly fallen out of favour under Arne Slot and at this stage a move away makes sense for everyone involved.

This opens up an exciting possibility for Liverpool to bring in a striker that is more suited to what Slot wants. A player who fits in the the profile of this new Slot attack that is a little bit different to how the Reds had played under Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman needs a more fluid and confident no.9 who is also comfortable on the ball and making runs off the ball both in offensive and defensive transitions.

Slot has confirmed this himself when he spoke about wanting a facilitator and a goal-scorer as his ideal no.9.

And it seems like, the Reds might have found their perfect candidate.

Hugo Ekitike confirms he is the ONE to replace Darwin Nunez

Hugo Ekitike has been on Liverpool's radar for years. Ever since he broke onto the scene at Reims, the Reds have courted him and have kept an eye on his progress.

He's been linked as a potential target for Liverpool this summer and it's not really a surprise. Ekitike is exactly the type of profile who would flourish under Slot and with 26 goal contributions in 37 matches already in this campaign, he's in great form.

Not to mention at 22 years old, he's the right age as well, ticking pretty much every box that the Reds' recruitment team will be looking for.

On Thursday night against Ajax in the Europa League Ekitike's performance once again confirmed why he is simply the perfect choice to replace Nunez.

Ekitike played a key role in Frankfurt's 4-1 win, providing the assist for the German side's opening goal with a sublimely weighted pass that cut through the Ajax defence like a knife through butter.

He then followed that up with an emphatic finish to round up the score in the second-half an ensure that his side advanced to the next round of the tournament where they will take on Tottenham.

In total Ekitike created the most chances (3) in the game and his threat showed exactly why he is that facilitator and goal-scorer profile that Slot is looking for.

Reports have claimed Frankfurt would be open to selling him for €80m, which makes him an ideal target for Liverpool because the Reds will be looking to sell Nunez on for more.

Essentially, Ekitike could be a direct replacement for the Uruguayan and it's a fee that would allow the Reds to invest in more forwards than just one - unlike Alexander Isak, who Newcastle want at least £150m for.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Julian Alvarez is another target for Liverpool. If the Reds decide to pursue him and Ekitike they could get the duo for about the same price as Isak and that would undoubtedly be the better deal.

Just like in the summer when Liverpool missed out on Jude Bellingham but signed Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, they will be investing their money wisely.
