Former Liverpool player Vladimir Smicer has said that Liverpool should look to sign Kevin De Bruyne.

In an interview with BoyleSports, as quoted by the Express, the ex-Red said that the one player he'd like to see at Anfield in the near future is Manchester City's De Bruyne because of his quality.

“It’s quite easy (which player I'd like to see Liverpool sign), Kevin De Bruyne! I don’t think he’s available but that kind of player, I’d like to see (at Anfield)," said Smicer.

“A player with similar qualities to him, but I’ll leave it to Jurgen (Klopp) as he always makes a good choice - look at (Luis) Diaz.”

Smicer also said that even if Liverpool can't sign De Bruyne, the Reds need to improve their midfield and he tipped Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni to be a potential signing for the club this summer.

“If I’m Jurgen Klopp I’d be happy if everyone stays up front. I’d go for a midfield player as that’s the area where we can be a little bit stronger," he added. “(James) Milner might not play again and in the middle of the park, we need to be stronger.

"We have Fabinho in midfield and he’s been fantastic but you can see when he’s injured.

“(Jordan) Henderson can play there but it’s not his real position, So Tchouameni, why not? As I said, in the transfer window I'm sure we can pick up the right players.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Even though we'd love Liverpool to sign De Bruyne, it definitely isn't happening while both teams are battling it out for the Premier League title each season.

That would be like the Reds letting Mohamed Salah sign for Manchester City next summer. It would never happen and the fans would start a riot if it did.

However, it doesn't stop us from dreaming about having a player like De Bruyne in our team. Imagine how many goals Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Diaz would score every season. It would be unbelievable.

Who knows, maybe one day De Bruyne joins his boyhood club and gets to work under Klopp.
