Former Liverpool forward Nabil El Zhar has spoken about how he thinks Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri could thrive at Anfield if given the chance.

Speaking to Liverpool.com, El Zhar said that his former teammate En-Nesyri 'could do very well at Liverpool'.

“He is a very good player. He caught Covid just before the African Cup of Nations and he struggled with injuries. But he is a very, very good player," said El Zhar.

“He caught Covid just before the African Cup of Nations and he struggled with injuries. But he is a very, very good player.

“He is a player who could do very well at Liverpool. He is quick, he runs a lot, he has a high speed, intensity, pressing the ball and is always moving on the pitch. He’s a very interesting player.

“He is a very good guy, too. When he came to Leganes, he was like a kid, and he was always listening to advice. He is a quiet guy who respects everyone and a great professional.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

En-Nesyri had an unbelievable 2020/21 season with Sevilla after signing for a reported fee of £18m from CD Leganés in January 2020.

The forward ended the season on 24 goals in 52 games for the Spanish side, which prompted a lot of clubs to try and poach him away from Sevilla, most notably a £30m bid from West Ham, as cited by HITC.

However, this season, the 24-year-old has only managed three goals and three assists in 21 games for Sevilla. Somewhat on the bright side though, the lack of goals and game time can be contributed to injuries and COVID that En-Nesyri has suffered this campaign.

Even though Liverpool have not been directly linked to En-Nesyri, the Moroccan has a similar player profile to other forwards who have come in recently.

He can play up front and on both wings, he's in the right age range 23-25-years-old and he is not at a top European club but he still has experience in the Champions League and Europa League.

This definitely isn't a transfer that will happen for the Reds but if he was to show form like last season then there may be a case for Liverpool to have a look at him in the future.
