Former Liverpool forward ends six-month goal drought after disastrous transfer

Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino ended his long, long wait for a goal last Friday.

The Brazilian made the switch to Saudi Arabia last summer, leaving Anfield after eight trophy-laden years with the Reds.

Joining up with Al Ahli on a free transfer, who also boast the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin and young starlet Gabri Veiga, Roberto Firmino was another star name added to a growing roster in the Saudi Pro League.

However, things have been pretty dismal for the 32-year-old in Asia, and he finally ended his six-month goal drought in a 3-2 defeat to Al Okhdood last Friday.

The Liverpool favourite netted a penalty in first-half stoppage time for Al Ahli's second equaliser of the game, but it wasn't enough to earn his side any points from their trip to Najran.

The result leaves Al Ahli in third and 16 points off league leaders Al Hilal, but at least Firmino eventually found his way back on to the scoresheet.

Things had looked so promising for the former Hoffenheim attacker after bagging a hat-trick on his first appearance for the club, but he then went 18 games without finding the back of the net.

Firmino isn't the only ex-Liverpool star that has struggled in Saudi Arabia, with Jordan Henderson having already called time on his disastrous spell in the Middle East.

The former Liverpool captain made the controversial move to Al Ettifaq last summer to join up with Steven Gerrard, but has since joined Dutch giants Ajax in the Eredivisie.

The 33-year-old midfielder is still awaiting his first win in Amsterdam, drawing three and losing one of his first four games at his new club.

Fabinho is another former Red who swapped England for Saudi Arabia in the summer, the Brazil international having made 23 appearances for fifth-placed Al Ittihad since a lucrative switch.
