It very much feels like there is pressure on Richard Hughes to get the deal over the line. Just as there had been pressure on his predecessors to sign Jude Bellingham.

In the end, Liverpool never made a move for Bellingham. The club opted for a smarter strategy instead by choosing to sign Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Isak may be a brilliant player, on the same calibre as Bellingham. However, don't be surprised if Hughes goes down the same route.

Instead, the focus should be on the gems of the market who the Liverpool sporting director will likely be looking at right now.

Why Richard Hughes will sign giant forward Nick Woltemade instead of Isak

The reality is that Liverpool have a lot of work to do when it comes to reshaping the squad this summer. There's an expectation that many players will depart the club.

Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that the likes of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz will all be up for sale. There is still uncertainty around the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, whose contracts are expiring at the end of the season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold seems destined to join Real Madrid. Meanwhile, no one will know what will happen with players on the periphery of the squad like Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Joe Gomez.

It's entirely possible that Hughes will be after a new left-back, right-back, holding midfielder and at least two new attackers, if not more this summer.

Given how much Liverpool would have to spend to get the right calibre of players in, there is no way the Reds would be willing to sanction a £120m or £150m move for Isak.

It seems way too frivolous and very unlike Liverpool or at least unlike the Liverpool we have come to know in the transfer market.

The reality is that Richard Hughes will be looking to get value for money instead. To find the Szoboszlais, McAllisters and Gravenberchs in a market that is very much focusing on the Bellingham that is Isak.

This should and likely will at least turn Liverpool's attention towards Nick Woltemade. The Germany U21 striker is valued only at €40m according to Bild's Julian Agardi, which makes him an absolutely bargain.

Standing at 1.98 metres he is a giant of a forward, yet he's brilliant with his feet and has been hugely impressive in the Bundesliga this season.

Looking at his numbers, he is one of the best finishers in the league. He averages the second highest goal conversion with a whopping 34.61% of his shots hitting the back of the net.

Only 23 years old, Woltemade will give Liverpool the opportunity to invest and buy more players into the attack while adding quality depth.

This is way more likely of a transfer for Hughes to make than Isak based on Liverpool's previous history.
