Federico Chiesa: Agents in England as Juventus set price for Liverpool target

Liverpool are monitoring Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, who could leave Turin this summer.

The 25-year-old attacker has long been one of Italy's biggest talents and earned admirers internationally with his displays at Euro 2020, where he was named UEFA's Team of the Tournament as the Azzurri lifted the title in London.

However, there is talk that Chiesa could be sold by Juve this summer as part of a plan to bring in money for new signings. Sport Mediaset claim that the winger — who struggled last season as Juve finished seventh in Serie A — is ill-suited to manager Max Allegri's more defensive 3-5-2 system.

They claim that Juve's own transfer plans to bring in Nicolo Zaniolo from Galatasaray may hinge on whether they can sell Chiesa, with the forward's agent travelling to London to speak to Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, amid "strong interest". This is backed up by Corriere dello Sport who wrote of the "English mission" the player's agents were on last week.

Sport Mediaset say that Juve will listen to offers of €50m (£42m) and above for Chiesa.

Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport's print edition mentions Liverpool and Newcastle as among the clubs monitoring Chiesa, claiming the player is "always in the thoughts" of both clubs.

A summer move for Chiesa looks unlikely at this stage for Liverpool. Although clearly a talented and versatile forward, the Reds' priority by all accounts is to strengthen in midfield and defence this window, with £50m-rated Romeo Lavia and Chelsea starlet Levi Colwill among the most discussed targets.

However, with Roberto Firmino and Fabio Carvalho departing already this summer, Liverpool are currently two men down on their attacking options from 2022/23.

Would Chiesa suit Liverpool?

Anfield Watch's Sam McGuire says: "Chiesa would’ve been an ideal signing for Liverpool a couple of years ago when he was a Fiorentina player. The move to Juventus hasn’t worked out though.

Injuries and a number of managerial changes in Turin meant he’s not had the platform or the environment to flourish.

Given his injury woes, spending so much money on him now would be a gamble and Liverpool aren’t in a position to do that."
