Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville was critical of Fabinho during Liverpool's Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.

The Citizens took the lead after five minutes of play through midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. Neville believes that Fabinho was mainly at fault for the goal.

As quoted by HITC, the 47-year-old said the following on Sky Sports: “As it got recycled, the ball comes to Kevin de Bruyne off that free-kick and he goes past Fabinho far too easily.

"It’s the deflection off (Joel) Matip that causes a massive problem for Alisson and for Liverpool.”

The Reds ended up fighting back and securing a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Neville is correct. Fabinho could have done better in the build up to De Bruyne's goal. But, no footballer is perfect.

For the most part, Fabinho has been excellent for Liverpool since signing for the club back in the summer of 2018.

The midfielder has made 160 appearances for the Reds' first-team. In doing so, Fabinho has helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup.

In other words, the 28-year-old has been a key cog in Jurgen Klopp's XI for a number of years.

Fabinho has also had a very good 2021-22 campaign thus far. He has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.01 across all competitions.

Fabinho's contract does not expire until the summer of June 2026. With that being the case, his time at Anfield is far from finished providing that he keeps on performing.

Hopefully Fabinho can add a few more trophies to his collection before his time at the club does come to an end.

We look forward to seeing how Fabinho's Liverpool career stacks up in the years to come.
