Fans make decision on Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Arsenal - poll results

Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a divisive figure at Liverpool. Not due to his quality, which is undeniable, but due to his position.

The No. 66 has been and continues to be used as a right-back for Liverpool, now asked to drift into midfield from defence in order to showcase his gorgeous range of passing and construct attacks.

However, as has been the case with England in recent times, Alexander-Arnold is starting to be used as an orthodox midfielder with greater regularity at Anfield.

For example, the 25-year-old came off the bench and straight into midfield against West Ham United midweek, supplying two assists in a 5-1 victory.

Alexander-Arnold is arguably wasted at right-back and needs to be given the freedom to roam around the pitch without as many defensive shackles. However, it's not that straightforward, with Liverpool losing his ability to create overloads in central areas if he starts in midfield.

WHERE SHOULD TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD PLAY AGAINST ARSENAL?

With an enormous clash against Arsenal coming, Klopp may be tempted to roll the dice and start Alexander-Arnold in midfield. After all, it would allow the more defensive-minded Joe Gomez to tangle with the tricky Gabriel Martinelli down the right flank.

However, changing things up on such an enormous occasion - Liverpool will go top with a win against Arsenal - seems unnecessarily risky.

When posed the question on X regarding Alexander-Arnold's starting position on Saturday, however, Anfield Watch's followers were keen to see Klopp gamble against the Gunners.

In fact, 65.3% of voters thought that the England international should start in midfield, with just 34.7% believing he should maintain his position at right-back.

Whether Klopp will chuck Alexander-Arnold into midfield up against the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard remains to be seen, with the 56-year-old perhaps preferring to stick with what he knows for such a crucial occasion.

Having said that, Klopp could move the right-back into the centre of the park during the second half, as he has done several times this season, especially if Liverpool are struggling for creativity.

Regardless of where he starts, Alexander-Arnold has proved he can be the difference-maker for the Reds having produced two goals and four assists in all competitions since the November international break.
