Fans can watch AC Milan vs Liverpool for FREE tonight after Amazon secure rights

Liverpool fans who want to watch the club's opening game of the Champions League against Italian side AC Milan tonight (Tuesday September 17) will need to sign up for a free Amazon Prime trial or Prime Video subscription in a major change to broadcasting channels for the 2024/25 tournament.

For the first time Liverpool will be shown on Amazon for a Champions League game after the retail giant secured the rights to Tuesday night Champions League fixtures. It means the match will not be shown in traditional Champions League broadcaster TNT, formerly BT Sport.

Amazon has agreed to show 17 Champions League matches over the course of the tournament, making up one per week, with the rest on TNT. Fans can sign up to a free trial at Amazon here, a video subscription for £5.99 a month here or a full Prime membership at £8.99 a month here.

Liverpool face AC Milan in a battle of Champions League royalty on Tuesday 17 September. Kick off at the San Siro will be at 8pm UK time and fans will be able to watch the match free using an Amazon trial. 

The subscription will also allow Liverpool fans to watch Amazon's Premier League matches. Amazon will show 20 matches with the a match week over the Christmas period broadcast solely on the channel.

Amazon has launched a 'rapid recap' feature that shows key highlights from the match if people tune in after kick off, as well as a feature to show notable moments including goals and VAR decisions on demand. Amazon also says fans can sign up to TNT via the Amazon platform if they want to watch all Champions League matches, while highlights will be shown in the BBC starting from the season.

Amazon has announced Jon Champion will be the commentator for the match and his co-commentator will be Alan Shearer. Gabriel Clarke and Alex Aljoe will report from inside the stadium while the studio team will be led by Gabby Logan and a number of ex-footballers including former Liverpool, striker Daniel Sturridge, AC Milan legend Clarence Seedorf, Frank LAmpard, Josie Henning, Gael Clichy, Laura Georges and more.

TNT will still show the majority of Champions League matches after securing the main rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League at a cost of £305 million annually for the rights, adding up to £915 million over the three years starting from this season.
