Liverpool are interested in Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds will be without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the early parts of the new year. Both wingers are heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

With that being the case, Romano recently implied that the Reds are considering signing a winger when the January transfer window opens.

Romano said that Liverpool do like the look of Danjuma. However, Romano did make it clear that Villarreal have no intentions of selling the 24-year-old come January.

As quoted by the Empire of the Kop, Romano told The Here We Go Podcast the following: “For January they [Liverpool] have a problem with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane heading for the Africa Cup and this is a huge problem and why they are looking for wingers, more than midfielders.

“Liverpool always work like this, no panic buys but if they have a good opportunity yes [they will sign someone], if not they will continue like this.

“I am told that Danjuma from Villarreal, the former Bournemouth player, is doing fantastic and they [Liverpool] love this player but Villarreal have no intentions of opening any talks in January.

“This does show the type of player Liverpool like so let’s see what happens in January."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Danjuma has had a very good start to the 2021-22 club campaign. The winger has found the back of the net seven times and registered two assists in 15 appearances for Villarreal.

Therefore, there is no denying that Danjuma would be a handy player to have around while Salah and Mane are away on international duty.

But, as Romano said, the 24-year-old will not be sold in January. Hopefully Liverpool can sign a forward to help cover the absence of both Salah and Mane.

As things stand, the Reds won't have too many quality attacking options when they do depart (Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino).
