Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS Liverpool want €55m Martin Zubimendi alternative
Liverpool’s approach for Martin Zubimendi in the summer was one of the most high-publicised transfer failures in recent memory.
The announcement that there had been an agreement between the Reds and Real Sociedad for the defensive midfielder was met with much fanfare, so when it emerged that Zubimendi himself had rejected the proposal, Liverpool were left with egg on their face.

This hasn’t deterred sporting director Richard Hughes however, with constant rumours that Liverpool are still interested in securing Zubimendi’s services.
And recent reports that Zubimendi himself would be open to a move has spurred Liverpool on. But with history being the way it is, the club are keeping their options open.
Another name that has been floated around in the midfield has been Atalanta’s Ederson.
Liverpool were interested in Ederson last season as well and his form for the Italian side this season has done nothing to diminish that interest.
And a new report from Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel has stated that Liverpool’s interest in the player remains high.
Could Liverpool move for Ederson?
Romano admits that Liverpool sent scouts to follow Ederson throughout last season and have continued that practice at points this season.
However, the transfer guru admits that luring Ederson out of Italy in January would be nigh-on impossible, taking what he refers to as a “crazy proposal” to do so.
He goes on to say that €50-55m would not be enough despite this being the Brazilian’s reported value at the moment, but that this could change come the summer.
Atalanta themselves are currently in the midst of establishing a Serie A title challenge, being able to go back to the top of the table with a win over Empoli today.
And Ederson has been essential to this level of performance for them, being a starting fixture in every game possible this season.
He also represents a more traditional centre-midfielder but is able to drop into the defensive midfield position if needed, giving him the versatility valued highly by Arne Slot as he looks to ensure depth alongside Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones in those ranks.
