Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool are not interested in Porto midfielder
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are not interested in signing Porto midfielder Otavio.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent times. Otavio's contract does not expire until the summer of June 2025, so he would cost the club a transfer fee.
However, Romano has made it clear that Liverpool are not planning on submitting an offer for the Portugal international this summer.
The journalist tweeted the following: "Both Liverpool and Porto deny all the stories about (the) Otavio deal. There are no negotiations ongoing - also, the release clause is €40 million and not €60 million.
"Otavio and (Gini) Wijnaldum are not in the list for Liverpool as things stand - still (a) long market, but no talks for these two."Anfield Watch Verdict
Otavio is a solid footballer. The midfielder has scored 24 goals and registered 62 assists in 237 appearances for Porto's first-team.
Otavio averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.39 across the 2021-22 campaign. Also, he is far from done at the top level.
Otavio is only 27 years of age. So, we would not be against Liverpool making a move for the Portugal international.
But, Romano is a reliable source. If he is saying that the Reds are not planning on submitting a bid for Otavio this summer, then it's more than likely true.
Liverpool do possess an ageing midfield. The likes of Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are in their 30s.
Therefore, we would love to see the club strengthen in midfield sometime soon. Only time will tell if that is to be the case.
On another note, we can't wait for the 2022-23 campaign. Nothing beats watching the Reds.
