Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho still has an uncertain future at RB Leipzig amid rumours linking him with a sooner than expected return to Anfield.

After a difficult first season on Merseyside following his arrival from Fulham, the decision was made to secure a temporary switch for the Portugal youth international.

The 21-year-old joined Marco Rose's side last summer on a season-long loan but has struggled for minutes in Germany, featuring just 15 times - only three of which have been starts.

Carvalho is yet to register a single goal contribution for Leipzig and has been a peripheral figure at the Red Bull Arena so far this term, leading to suggestions that his loan deal may be cut short to allow him to find a more suitable environment to develop.

However, Leipzig's sporting director Rouven Schroder has insisted that Carvalho will stay with the German side, claiming: "We are always in good communication with him and his management. When a player goes to a Champions League club, he knows that the competition is fierce. Nevertheless, he got his minutes. He will be with us again on January 2nd."

According to BILD, Leipzig have blocked the cancellation of Carvalho's loan deal and are intent on keeping him at the club until the end of the season, despite the fact that they have just signed midfielder Eljif Elmas of Napoli.

Team that with Dani Olmo's upcoming return and it seems that Carvalho's playing time at Leizpig is unlikely to improve any time soon.

BILD do suggest that Leipzig will monitor the situation and have refused to rule out Carvalho returning to the United Kingdom before the end of January, with Fulham reportedly interested in bringing the youngster back to Craven Cottage.

Carvalho's future remains unclear heading into the winter window, all while his development continues to stagnate due to a lack of game time.
