Throughout his career at Liverpool, Salah has never been this close to leaving the club. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is now just months away from being able to leave on a free transfer.

Yet, despite Salah being so close to running out his current deal and despite him being in the form of his life, Liverpool haven't really acted urgently so far to agree an extension.

The club has dithered and dithered and has refused to agree to Salah's terms. If that continues to be the case, then we are unlikely to see a positive outcome from this situation.

Especially, if Liverpool make insulting offers to Salah and his entourage.

Liverpool's insane offer to Mo Salah

Speaking exclusively on Anfield Watch's YouTube channel, Egyptian journalist Ahmed Atta was asked about his understanding of Salah's current situation at Liverpool.

Atta, who is a renowned Egyptian journalist and was the chief editor of the Arabic edition of GOAL, revealed that so far the Reds have made only one offer to Salah, but that offer has been way below expectations.

'But looks like he had some reasonable reasons [to speak out publicly] because the info I found out recently is that Liverpool made him just one formal offer,' Atta told Anfield Watch.

'It was like, we can say it's like one month ago or one month and a half and it was less than what he's getting now, not more or not even equal to what's getting now.

'So it's a big surprise me to be honest. I won't say I'm a big fan of Salah.

'I was always irritated by his repeatedly talking about such things [contract matters]. But now he is convincing me that he has a very reasonable and convincing reason to talk about it. With such talent, with such performance and such influence in this team, he has all the reason to at least, at least have the same salary as he's gaining now.

'But surprisingly, what I know now that recently he got a formal offer with less than not, not even close, by the way, not even close to his current salary. So I don't know what Liverpool's administration are thinking in Liverpool's boardroom. I'm not sure what they have in mind.'

If this is indeed true, that is quite an insane offer from Liverpool. Salah definitely deserves at least the amount he is currently earning at Anfield, if not even a pay rise.

He's guaranteed to get a pay rise anywhere else he goes, Liverpool need to reward him for the talent he is and the fine form he is in.

We are talking about a player here who has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or, who is having one of the best individual seasons of all time in the Premier League.

If Liverpool do not sort out his situation, they will come to regret it. No question about that.
