EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool will replicate Kylian Mbappe blueprint

Trent Alexander-Arnold looks certain to leave Liverpool but the club can follow the same Kylian Mbappe blueprint that has worked elsewhere.

It's probably the least closely guarded secret in football. Just as Mbappe's move to Real Madrid played out in the public last season, the Spanish giants have done it again.

Alexander-Arnold has been perpetually in the news over his decision to join Real. Updates have been incessant, but now it finally feels like he has made his decision.

That decision will be for Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool at the end of the season in what will be a devastating blow and a really sad and disappointing departure for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold is a boyhood Liverpool fan. He's a club icon in this Liverpool team and the vice captain. Importantly, he's also a generational talent.

Losing him will be a blow but it's also an opportunity for the Reds to start anew and become even better.

Liverpool can follow PSG's example

Laurence McKenna who was speaking exclusively with Bence Bocsak on the Anfield Watch YouTube channel explained why losing Alexander-Arnold may be a positive for the Reds.

"I think to end it in a positive way," Bocsak began the conversation.

"Just look at PSG right now without Mbappe. The same situation happened to them and they are better than ever.

"It feels like they underwent a sort of metamorphosis where they went into their cocoon and came out as a bigger and even more beautiful butterfly, with this young team, this exciting young team that probably outplayed Liverpool over two legs. And that's saying a lot because we haven't seen that under Arne Slot at all."

"So I think there is a silver lining almost as difficult as that is to believe but Liverpool can sort of start anew and can do something potentially even better."

The PSG comparison is a very positive way of looking at things and McKenna agreed with Bocsak's statement.

"I think you're right," McKenna said.

"To a large extent if you are a Slot, you're looking at that and thinking, how exciting is it that, obviously working with Trent's great, but how exciting is it that I can put my own mark on every position in the side, and maybe I'm not married to Trent's, maybe lack of tracking back, whatever you wanna call that or just idiosyncrasies should put like that.

"That would be exciting for a coach that you are moving that on. I would say there's plenty of positives and also I think if we [Liverpool] want to be treated as a big club, which we are, act like it. Don't worry. Cool. You want to go like, this has been great, but goodbye. Thank you. We're done.

"You move on. You go do your big thing you, which you learned from us. And we'll go do our big thing and we're very grateful, but we are big enough to sustain a right back leaving, put it that way. That's, you know, broadly, how I'd feel about that if I'm a big club, which we are."

It's pretty much the model Liverpool will look to follow. Like PSG moved on from Mbappe, the Reds will move on from Alexander-Arnold and become even better.
