The Spaniard may have turned down a move in the summer but there is a feeling at Liverpool that the saga has not come to a conclusion yet.

Real Sociedad have started the season in disappointing form and while Zubimendi's side have improved over the last few weeks, the allure of Liverpool right now is at an all time high.
Given Liverpool's great form and Zubimendi entering the prime years of his career, the Reds are right to be optimistic about their chances of succeeding in their pursuit a second time around.
However in the meantime Liverpool have also lined up alternatives for Zubimendi, including an exciting Italian midfielder.
Liverpool want Samuele Ricci as Martin Zubimendi alternative
Anfield Watch understands one of the possible candidates that has been identified by the club is Samuele Ricci. Club scouts have been very impressed by the Italian midfielder's numbers and see him as an ideal alternative option to Zubimendi.
Back in the summer, Liverpool made contact with Torino in order to enquire about Ricci but were discouraged by the €60m asking price.
However, the club continues to monitor the 23-year-old and could return with another enquiry for his services should attempts to persuade Zubimendi fail a second time around as well.

Richard Hughes is very familiar with the Italian market and his influence has already seen the Reds land Federico Chiesa in the summer transfer window.
Since Italy's disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, Ricci has established himself as a key player in the starting line-up for his national team and he is regarded as one of the country's most promising up and coming midfielders.
The Reds are deterred by the price tag for now. However, Ricci's contract at Torino expiring in the summer of 2026, there is hope that Torino's asking price could be reduced next summer.
For now, it's a waiting game for Liverpool as they explore their options and prepare for what's expected to be a busy transfer window in the summer.
