Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed to Anfield Watch that he expects Liverpool target Erling Haaland to remain at Borussia Dortmund for another season.

Romano claims that Haaland is happy at Dortmund and is not seeking a summer transfer away from the club as he looks to continue his development in Germany.

He adds that Dortmund are unlikely to sell both Sancho and Haaland in the summer, with the latter more likely to hold off for a year before moving at the end of the 2021/22 campaign as his release clause becomes active.

Speaking exclusively to Anfield Watch, Romano has explained Haaland's current situation and when Liverpool should be looking to strike a deal. "It is normal these clubs are following him and they have a relationship with Raiola (Haaland's agent), but at the moment the player is happy and he is not asking to leave the club. He knows he has only been at Borussia Dortmund for one year so he wants to continue scoring goals and playing Champions League and Bundesliga football is helping him with experience in senior football.

"But, for sure, the plan for Borussia Dortmund will be a bit different in the summer because there are a few chances to sell Sancho and selling both Sancho and Haaland in the same summer will not be in the perfect style of a German club.

"Only if they could have an enormous bid they could sell Haaland as his release clause will be ready in 2022 and not next summer and it will be around €75m for Erling Haaland. So I also think Mino Raiola will push for Haaland to stay one more year in Dortmund and then leaving the club and getting big money."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Haaland is still only 20-years-old and could benefit from another full season of regular first-team football with Dortmund before potentially making a move to a bigger club. Over the next 18 months, Haaland can continue to hone his skills, develop his game, and become a better player to fully prepare himself for a transfer to a club like Liverpool, Real Madrid or Manchester City where he may be expected to consistently score goals and help the team to titles.

With his release clause of €75m coming into effect in the summer of 2022, there could be more activity regarding interest from clubs as the date draws closer, as Romano explains that his agent is likely to push for a move that year. This means that Liverpool may need to be patient for the next 18 months and potentially avoid other deals for strikers to save their money for a swing at Haaland in 2022.
