Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano delivers verdict on idea of £45m-valued midfielder joining Reds

Sky reporter Fabrizio Romano has said that there is currently no indication Liverpool may move to bring Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield, speaking exclusively to Anfield Watch.

The Reds saw the Brazilian leave in a blockbuster deal involving Barcelona and that financial windfall helped cover the signings of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker - shrewd business indeed.

However, there's always been a suggestion that the attacking midfielder - valued at £45m currently by transfermarkt - might end up back in a red shirt before his playing days are over and Romano said you can't rule that out in the future.

Speaking to Anfield Watch in an exclusive interview, the Italian transfer expert explained there's little on the horizon in terms of a return but that the Brazilian was happiest on Merseyside and you never know what the future may hold:

"They had the chance to sign him again but Liverpool said no because they didn't need his sort of player at the time," Romano divulged.

"But why not in the future? The only place he's been really happy in his career - apart from Vasco da Gama - was at Liverpool so why not in the future?

"At the moment, though, there is nothing there because Liverpool are looking at different types of players."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Coutinho scored some wonderful goals in a red shirt and his time will be looked back on fondly but it's hard to predict whether he'd ever come back to Anfield.

Obviously, stranger things have happened and it's clear he loved his time at L4 and made some great friendships but that's not always enough to seal a return.

He's Barcelona's player for the foreseeable future at the moment and, as Romano says, Liverpool have other priorities in terms of adding to their squad at the moment.
