Wycombe Wanderers forward and Liverpool fan Adebayo Akinfenwa has exclusively told Anfield Watch that the club should still be aiming for the Premier League and Champions League trophies this season.

Akinfenwa believes that Liverpool should not be putting all of their eggs in one basket by going all out for the Champions League, as they still have a chance of winning the Premier League title as it stands.

Speaking exclusively to Anfield Watch, Akinfenwa has backed Liverpool to compete on all fronts over the next few months. "Listen, I think you have to go for everything, personally. I think it's got to be a title challenge, but listen the Manchester City game was a dent.

"I actually don't think you put all of your eggs in one basket. I don't think to say 'oh well we should just leave the Premier League and go for the Champions League. I think, and you'll know Klopp better than me, you'll go for it all and you should aim for it all, and if you fall short at least you've gone for it all."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Liverpool find themselves in a tough position domestically as they currently sit 16 points behind Manchester City having both played 24 matches. Jurgen Klopp's side are sixth in the Premier League with 14 matches left to play, so nothing is mathematically confirmed as of yet. Liverpool still have a chance, however small, of clawing back the deficit so as long as that hope remains they should continue to compete and try their best to retain their title, as Akinfenwa says.

Despite their poor form in the Premier League, Liverpool are still well within contention to win the Champions League. The Reds are currently 2-0 up on aggregate heading into their second-leg against RB Leipzig in the round of 16, so it is looking likely that Klopp's side will make it through to the last eight. From there, some favourable draws and a return to form for some key players could give Liverpool a good chance of picking up some silverware from this season.
