Ex-Liverpool midfielder wanted for SURPRISE Merseyside return

A surprise move could be on the way as a former Liverpool midfielder is linked with a return to Merseyside. It's not one the Reds will regret.

Liverpool raised eyebrows back in 2022 when they decided to loan Arthur from Juventus. The Brazilian had struggled to find form in Turin, having once been a very highly-rated midfielder signed by Barcelona.

Liverpool, though, plainly thought they could get something out of Arthur. They were willing to take a chance and it's one that didn't pay off in the slightest.

Really, that can't be exaggerated. Arthur was a bizarre flop at Liverpool, appearing just once.

He got on for 13 minutes against Napoli as the Reds lost 4-1 in Italy. It wasn't the debut he wanted, of course, but there was a bit of hype going into an international break that Arthur could get up to full fitness and truly break into the side.

Unfortunately, an injury followed in that break. Arthur would be so far out of the plans once he returned that Jurgen Klopp never used him again.

Just 13 minutes, then. That's what Arthur's Liverpool career amounted to.

And now he could be set for a return to Merseyside.

Arthur to Everton

TuttoJuve reports that Everton have enquired with Juventus about Arthur. The Brazilian is once again linked with a move away from Turin but it had been expected that Real Betis was his destination.

It appears that one has stalled, though, opening the door for Everton. They're going to try and get the midfielder, despite his previous experience in English football being an unmitigated disaster for their own local rivals.

But they must be buying into the same hype Liverpool did, even though there's less behind it now. Arthur is a talented player - just one that doesn't appear to actually deliver on that talent very often.

Maybe they'll have more luck. Even a second appearance would be an upgrade, after all.
