Under FSG's guidance, Liverpool have continued to operate under tight budgets but the frugal spending has also meant the club has never ever been on the same danger as they once were under Hicks and Gillett.

And despite having a frugal budget, Liverpool are still able to attract the best players to the club and make sure the Reds are competing at the highest levels, even up against a gigantic financial powerhouse like Manchester City.

A huge factor behind this is the clever way Liverpool organise their wage structure something that has now been explained by a former player who worked in recruitment at Anfield.

Liverpool's genius wage structure revealed

Sky Sports recently conducted an interview with Patrick Montgomery, the former Lead Recruitment Analyst for Liverpool. Montgomery had spent close to ten years at the club arriving in 2017 and leaving towards the end of last year in December.

In the enthralling interview, Montgomery was quizzed about various things when it comes to recruitment and Liverpool's policy and he shared plenty of interesting insights.

Among them one of the most intriguing part of the conversation was the discussion about Liverpool's wage structure and how the club's focus isn't necessarily on giving huge wages but instead to offer incentives to optimise player performance.

"I think it comes down to, without going into the specifics, how much do you put within your contract incentives based on performances," Montgomery said.

"So, reach a certain number of appearances, certain number of starts, do they trigger then an increase?

"You then got to be creative with the contracts you provide so those types of things, because it's only natural that you give a young player who has played 50 first team games and has done really well, a huge contract, there's going to be a drop off.

"So if you can kind of meet that happy medium of you're rewarded but you need to keep progressing, you never know for sure but that might keep that hunger sort of there as you progress through."

This is the genius secret behind Liverpool's structure. This model ensures that the club remain in a healthy financial position while also getting the best out of their stars.

It is also why while on paper Liverpool's expenditure on wages do not seem that much but when you delve into with the added bonuses and incentives, the Reds do end up paying a lot more.

That is simply to reward good work and reward the players for the profits they bring into the club when Liverpool are successful on the pitch.

It's a structure that makes a lot of sense and one of the absolute key factors why the club is where it is today.
