Liverpool will be aiming to make it three wins on the bounce when they travel to Everton in an enormous Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening. 

The Reds got back to winning ways domestically with a 3-1 victory against Fulham on Sunday afternoon, a result that saw Liverpool move to second in the Premier League table.

While the title race is still out of their hands, a much-needed win at Craven Cottage offers a glimmer of hope that they can still be crowned champions come the middle of May.

However, they will need to overcome their Merseyside rivals Everton if they have any chance of winning the title, a fixture that seldom proves simple for the Reds.

Liverpool won the reverse fixture 2-0 in slightly controversial circumstances, but their recent Goodison Park record is far from perfect. With the Toffees frantically fighting for Premier League survival, the stakes are even higher this Wednesday.

EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD

The Merseyside derby is one of the most played fixtures in English football history and Liverpool's recent record in this clash is mightily impressive.

Amazingly, Liverpool have lost just one of their last 29 derbies - a 2-0 defeat at an empty Anfield in 2021 - with their last loss at Goodison Park coming in 2010.

However, the Reds have drawn five of their last six journeys across Stanley Park, with four of those meetings finishing goalless. For Liverpool this Wednesday, a draw is simply not good enough.

The positive news is that Liverpool have won their last two derbies, both finishing 2-0 at Anfield, including the battle earlier this season in which Mohamed Salah bagged a brace.

Liverpool seemingly came away from Craven Cottage with no new fitness concerns, meaning Jurgen Klopp has a fairly clean bill of health heading to Goodison Park.

Conor Bradley is among the absentees and will be out for several weeks, while Ben Doak is still sidelined as he closes in on a return. Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are out for the season.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

Everton have several injury concerns ahead of the midweek clash, with Nathan Patterson one of the few guaranteed absentees for Liverpool's visit. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could also miss out after being forced off with a knee injury at the weekend.

Lewis Dobbin is unavailable and Seamus Coleman is a major doubt, while Beto won't feature after he was stretchered off and taken to hospital due to a head injury suffered against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

LIVERPOOL PREDICTED LINEUP

Klopp made a number of changes for the trip to west London at the weekend and he may need to rotate again on Wednesday given the quick turnaround between fixtures.

The only change to the back four should be Ibrahima Konate coming in for Jarell Quansah, with Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and the influential Trent Alexander-Arnold retaining their spots.

Wataru Endo was back to his best against Fulham and should be joined by his regular teammate Alexis Mac Allister. Harvey Elliott may have done enough to earn a start, but Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are other options.

Klopp has some big decisions to make in attack, with Diogo Jota a must-start given he got himself back on the scoresheet against Fulham. Luis Diaz is likely to take residence back on the left flank, while Salah should be offered the chance to continue his fantastic record against the Toffees.

Bar a 4-1 win in the 2021/22 season, trips to Goodison have been incredibly cagey in recent campaigns. With both sides desperate for the points, that's unlikely to change on Wednesday.

Liverpool's confidence should be high after victory over Fulham but Everton also won at the weekend, making this an incredibly tricky clash. However, the Reds should, on paper, sneak a victory against the Toffees.
