"Elliott is a new signing" - Jurgen Klopp on signing a midfielder this summer

Jurgen Klopp has said that Liverpool don't need to sign a midfielder this summer transfer window.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace friendly, the Anfield boss doubled down, claiming that Liverpool don't need a new midfielder.

"There is no need for a new midfielder. We cannot just add on midfielders," Klopp said, as quoted by Anfield Watch.

"We respect the contracts with our boys as well, that means as long as we signed them they get all our support – in training, between the sessions, during the games and between the games.

"For me, Harvey Elliott is a new signing as well, after last season how he started. He is very young, came back brilliant, then had a little low, that is completely normal after being that long out. So, really excited about seeing him."

Anfield Watch Verdict

With Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all heading into the final year of their contracts, it would be nice to have a new midfielder come in to learn the ropes under minimal pressure.

However, Klopp seems very certain that he doesn't need to add more firepower to the middle of the park.

If that is the case, then it's very confusing as to why we tried so hard to sign Aurelien Tchouameni. He ended up joining Real Madrid from Monaco this summer.

I think if we secured the Frenchman, then Klopp definitely wouldn't have the same attitude that he has now.

Jude Bellingham is another player we seem very interested in, but it doesn't look like we will make a move for him until next year.

Who knows though, maybe a club tries to sign the Englishman this transfer window and Liverpool jump into action.

I trust Klopp 100%, but it would be nice to have a world-class midfielder come in this summer.
