"Don’t think he’s performed to his best" - Pundit on current Liverpool player

Pundit Farrah Williams has recently been talking about Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman missed the majority of last season due to a knee injury. However, Van Dijk has been available for the entire 2021-22 campaign thus far.

But, Williams believes that the 30-year-old has not been at his best in the early stages of the new season.

As quoted by HITC, Williams told the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast the following: “For all the talk of Van Dijk being the best defender in the world. Since returning from his injury, I actually don’t think he’s performed to his best yet and Liverpool’s back four certainly haven’t either.

"Both set-pieces [against West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium last weekend] in terms of the defending was awful. At 3-1 there were two counter-attacks that West Ham had that split the centre-halves.

"Defensively they don’t look as strong as they did two years ago when they won the league."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We believe that Van Dijk has been solid for Liverpool so far season. The centre-back is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.05 in the Premier League.

However, we do somewhat agree with Williams. Back in 2019, Van Dijk was named runner-up for the Ballon d'Or.

The aforementioned achievement highlights that the Dutchman is a world-class player. Therefore, we are confident that Van Dijk can improve on his current output.

But, considering the centre-back is coming off a serious knee injury, we have been impressed with his performances so far this season.
