It's been a whirlwind few months for Dominik Szoboszlai.

After arriving at Liverpool for £60m during the summer, the Hungarian midfielder has settled at Anfield, well, remarkably quickly.

The former RB Leipzig man has blossomed since making the move to Merseyside, flourishing in a new-look Liverpool team and providing exactly the creativity and athleticism Liverpool fans have been crying out for from their midfielders in recent years.

Szoboszlai has two goals and two assists to his name this season, but his confidence, swagger and supreme technical quality have swiftly endeared him to the Anfield crowd.

Taking over the No. 8 shirt at Liverpool, Szoboszlai has naturally drawn comparisons with the most famous player to don the shirt in recent times, Steven Gerrard.

The 23-year-old had previously revealed that he has a tattoo inspired by a quote attributed to Gerrard, one of the reasons he decided to choose the iconic No. 8 jersey.

Szoboszlai has already outshone Naby Keita, the previous incumbent of the No. 8 shirt at Anfield, but says he doesn't want to be compared with Liverpool legend Gerrard.

Speaking to Football Focus (via Liverpool FC's website), he said: "I don’t want to be him, I want to be myself. But of course if they put a paper in front of me now and say you’re going to have the same impact or the same career here in Liverpool, I’m going to sign it directly!"

While expectations were high upon Szoboszlai's arrival, his quick start in a red shirt has largely exceeded expectations. However, despite exuding confidence, the midfielder has admitted he had some self-doubts about making the switch to Liverpool.

"To be honest, I was thinking, ‘Is it the right timing?’" said Szoboszlai. "This was the only thing I was thinking of. Not [if it was] the right choice, the right timing.

"Am I ready to come to the Premier League and play for Liverpool? And I said to myself, ‘Always when something big comes you never know you are ready, [so] you have to try.’

"And if I don’t try, it will always be in my mind why I didn’t go. So I just said, ‘Let’s do it, let’s see, I’m going to be ready.’"

Once making the move, it was a "crazy" first few days for the Hungarian maestro as he got acquainted with his new teammates.

"It’s crazy. When I came, [in] the first days I was like, ‘Am I on PlayStation or something?!’

"It was great to know them and how they are, not only from the television. To play with them is even better."

Szoboszlai has been in action already over the November international break, putting in an instrumental performance that secured Euro 2024 qualification for Hungary during a 2-2 draw with Bulgaria.

The 36-cap international will return to action with the Reds against Manchester City on Saturday 25 November.
