Liverpool have confirmed that a 'minor knock' has prevented Dominik Szoboszlai from taking part in the pre-season clash against Greuther Furth on Monday.

Szoboszlai joined the Reds from RB Leipzig earlier this month after Liverpool activated his £60m release clause.

The 22-year-old has already impressed in his short time under Jurgen Klopp. The new number eight 'won' his group in the infamous pre-season lactate test and gave fans a first look at his ability in the 4-2 win over Karlsruher SC last week.

However, the Hungarian has not been included in the team for the Reds' friendly against Greuther Furth on Monday (12:00 UK / 13:00 CET), after he rolled his ankle in training.

While sharing the team news ahead of the game, Liverpool confirmed their new signings absence: "Dominik Szoboszlai misses out as a precaution after picking up a minor knock in training."

Following the match in Germany, the Reds will travel to Singapore where they will take on Leicester City on Sunday 30 July and Bayern Munich on Wednesday 2 August.

If Szoboszlai's injury is as minor as reported, there is no reason to believe he won't play some part in those fixtures. The Athletic reports that he is expected to be fit to travel to Asia with the rest of the squad.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Furth, Jurgen Klopp said of Szoboszlai's exclusion from the squad: "If we would have today a Premier League game, he could play. So, we don't take a risk and we will see what we will do with the Leicester game. But for the Bayern game he will be ready, definitely."
