Dominik Szoboszlai's best ever goals – ranked

Dominik Szoboszlai’s summer signing from RB Leipzig has been a breath of fresh air for Liverpool.

The £60m Hungarian has slotted with ease into Jurgen Klopp’s new-look midfield and already looks like the scout of the summer.

So far, he's grabbed two goals for the Reds, including an absolute beauty against Leicester City in third-round of the Carabao Cup.

While the Steven Gerrard-esque strike Klopp described as a 'grenade' would be most players finest ever by some distance, Szoboszlai wasn't convinced.

Speaking after the win over the Foxes, he said: "It was very special. I don’t know if it was the best goal, I scored one of my best in the national team and also in Salzburg. But [it was] one of the best for sure."

Well, if that's not clearly the best, it's probably worth finding out what is...

6. Liverpool vs Aston Villa (2023)

Where is a better place to start then Szoboszlai’s first Liverpool goal?

Three minutes into the game, the Reds whip a corner in from the right-hand side, which falls all the way to the Hungarian on the edge of the box.

Szoboszlai then unleashes his perfect technique to connect with the sweetest of strikes on the half volley, leaving Emi Martinez helpless as he watches the ball sail into the far corner of the net.

5. RB Leipzig vs Dortmund (2022)

Szoboszlai has a cannon of a right foot, and this strike proves it.

Picking the ball up almost 30 yards from the goal, the Hungarian leathers a strike towards the Dortmund net which soars into the top corner.

Kissing the crossbar on the way in, the Dortmund goalkeeper was nowhere near to Szoboszlai’s magnificent effort.

With this goal only fourth on the list, prepare yourself for the top three.

4. Liverpool vs Leicester (2023)

Almost a carbon copy of his goal against Dortmund, Szoboszlai’s effort against Leicester was perhaps even more of a beauty.

Picking the ball up from Wataru Endo, the midfielder spins, takes a touch out of his feet and unleashes a strike into the top left corner, crashing off the crossbar once again and earning comparisons with a certain former Liverpool number eight.

It only took 2.46 seconds from his first touch to the ball hitting the back of the net. The Hungarian is rapid.

3. Hungary vs Iceland (2020)

Perhaps the most clutch moment of Szoboszlai's short career to date.

Then barely 20 years old, the rising star ran half the length of the field to net a stunning stoppage-time winner in the Euro 2020 playoffs against Iceland and send Hungary to only their second major tournament since 1986.

2. Salzburg vs Lokomotiv Moscow (2020)

After his goal against Leicester, Szoboszlai referenced one of his best coming for Salzburg and after having a look at this strike, it’s hard to disagree.

1-0 down to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League, a short corner gets played to the midfielder on the edge of the box who curls a looping effort over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Watch this goal on repeat. You will never get bored of it.

1. Hungary vs Bulgaria (2023)

And finally, the goal that we have all watched over and over again when Szoboszlai's name was first connected with Liverpool.

Back in March of 2023, during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Bulgaria, the midfielder found himself lining up for a free kick 30 yards out, in exactly the zone most goalkeepers think “no chance”.

Szoboszlai then steps up and leathers a knuckleball effort which curls and swerves into the top corner of the Bulgaria net.

It is up there with one of the best free kicks international football has ever witnessed, and because it’s Szoboszlai, we might as well say it’s the best.
