Dominik Szoboszlai remains a doubt for Liverpool's return to Premier League action against Bournemouth on Sunday, while Andy Robertson has re-joined his teammates.

Szoboszlai suffered a hamstring problem during the Reds' 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year's Day and has sat out the last two fixtures.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders predicted the midfielder would miss a minimum of two games as he recovered while there had been speculation that he could return after the winter mini-break to face Bournemouth

Szoboszlai himself gave a positive update on his progress as he collected Hungary's Sportsperson of the Year award, telling reporters: "It won’t take long and I’ll be back."

However, the former RB Leipzig star was not pictured amongst the group at a frosty AXA Training Centre as the Liverpool squad returned to work on Wednesday.

It appears the 23-year-old Hungarian remains one of up to ten first-team players injured or unavailable through international duty as the Reds' prepare to take on the Cherries this weekend.

Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo are absent due to their ongoing participation in the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Joel Matip, Kostas Tsimikas and Robertson are all out with injuries.

However, in more positive news, the latter was pictured in the gym with the rest of his teammates on Wednesday, as he steps up his recovery after shoulder surgery.

The Scotland captain spent the winter break in Dubai as part of his rehab, while he could soon return to full-contact training.

Speaking earlier this month, assistant manager Lijnders suggested that both Robertson and Tsimikas could re-join their teammates fully by the end January.

Lijnders said: "Kostas is progressing really well, really quick. So hopefully both of them – Robbo and Kostas – will be back at the end of this month to train with the team."

Joe Gomez has deputised in the absence of the two injured left backs, while 21-year-old Owen Beck was also recalled from Dundee FC to provide additional cover.
