"Do a job for you" - Gary Neville says Liverpool should sign Brentford man
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes that Liverpool should make a move for Brentford's Christian Eriksen.
The attacking midfielder certainly possesses quality. Between 2013-20, Eriksen found the back of the net 69 times and registered 90 assists in 305 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur's first-team.
Neville said that Eriksen could prove some use to Liverpool if Thiago Alcantara, who has a poor injury record, needed to be substituted or was unavailable for selection.
As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told Sky Sports' Overlap the following: "If Liverpool are looking for a midfielder to come on for Thiago, say who gets injured a little bit, why would you not look at (Christian) Eriksen? Look at him for two seasons to do a job for you.
“If you were any top-six club, that were looking at a midfield three, and you wanted a player to go in there and play 30 games for you in a squad-type (role). He could play for Manchester City, Liverpool and any club in the top-six.
“I am not saying starting every week. (A little bit like) what (Xherdan) Shaqiri was doing for Liverpool.”
It is important to note that the Reds have not genuinely been linked with a move for Eriksen.
Anfield Watch Verdict
We would not be against Liverpool making a move for Eriksen. As we have pointed out, the attacking midfielder possesses quality.
Also, Eriksen is only 30 years of age. So, as Neville said, he could be signed to do a job for a season or two.
Eriksen's contract expires in June. Therefore, he will be a free agent in under a month. Hopefully Liverpool are considering signing Eriksen.
But, only time will tell if the club are to make a move for him.
