Diogo Jota has won an individual award in his home country of Portugal.

Liverpool and Portuguese international Diogo Jota has won the 'Talent that marks the World' award for the month of March.

The monthly award is presented to a Portuguese coach or player who has made the greatest impact, outside of Portugal. Previous winners include Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Fulham manager, Marco Silva.

After accepting the award, Jota talked about how important the award is for Portuguese players who don't play in their home country, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

"It is a great source of pride to win this award," said Jota. "I've been playing outside of Portugal for a few years now and it's always good to get this kind of recognition, in what I think is a good initiative from Liga Portugal.

"As I said, it is always very good to be recognised and it gives us the courage and motivation to continue our path.

"The fact that I play outside of Portugal is like taking our country beyond our borders. Since I went to Wolverhampton, not only me but also my colleagues, have seen many Portuguese flags being raised by fans.

"So I think, in a way, we do a little bit for our country and it is always good to be recognised in Portugal.

"I really like football and I follow Portuguese football. Obviously, the fight for the title is very interesting to watch, but I also like to follow my FC Paços de Ferreira and know that they are now having a good season, after having had a small bad start."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Since signing for Liverpool in 2020 for a reported fee of £40m, Jota has quickly become a fan favourite at Anfield, even having his own chant.

This year has been massive for the 25-year-old, as it's been the season he has staked his name as a constant starter for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Even though we still have around 10 games to play this campaign, Jota already has 21 goals and four assists in 44 games to his name.

Hopefully, he can carry on this amazing form and help guide Liverpool to a historic quadruple.
