Diogo Jota has officially signed a new deal at Liverpool

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has agreed new terms with the club.

The Portugal international has signed a five-year deal with the Reds. Jota's contract will now expire at the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign.

The 25-year-old had the following to say after signing the deal.

“Well, (I’m) really proud, I have to say,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.

“Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while.

“So, the beginning of a new season, let’s do it.”

Liverpool signed Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of £40.23 million back in the summer of 2020.

Since then, the forward has scored 34 goals and registered nine assists in 85 appearances for the club's first-team.

In other words, Jota has been a very good signing for Liverpool. Therefore, we aren't surprised that the club has renewed the Portugal international's contract.

However, Jota will have to work hard to get into Jurgen Klopp's starting XI on a consistent basis this season. The German is not short of attacking options (Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Jota).

But, the 25-year-old will get plenty of opportunity to showcase his talent. Liverpool play in the Premier League, Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup. Squad rotation is a requirement.
