Diogo Jota calls for teammates to keep fighting amid selection difficulties

Diogo Jota has called for his teammates to keep up the standard after the Reds cruised to a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Darwin Nunez and Jota both bagged second-half braces at the Vitality Stadium, propelling Jurgen Klopp's side to a win that takes them five points clear at the top of the league.

It comes at a time where Liverpool are somewhat struggling for numbers, with a handful of key players absent either due to injury or international duty.

Jota has acknowledged this strain on the team, insisting that his teammates mustn't waver amid increased pressure.

"It's part of the job, we know we have a few injuries, players going away for national teams," Jota told the club's official website. "It's hard.

"We survived December, January is coming thick and fast from now on and we all need to be ready. I think we have the players and the quality to keep winning games.

"Of course we have world-class players – when we have them it's easier. But when we don't have them, that's why we are Liverpool because we have good players and we kind of replace them and try to give our best and share the cost of the games between us and keep going."

The Portugal international earned vast praise for his goalscoring exploits against the Cherries, firing in two clinical finishes to give Liverpool daylight in the contest.

Highly regarded as one of the club's best finishers, Jota has offered his take on what makes him so deadly in front of goal.

"It's hard to explain, I try to be in the right place at the right time and that's why I work," he added.

"This kind of feeling, it just comes natural and that's why I need to be there to help the team to score goals and make assists."
