"Difficult" - Jamie Carragher claims it will be hard for Liverpool to buy West Ham forward

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Jarrod Bowen for the past few months but former Reds defender Jamie Carragher believes the transfer will be 'difficult' to complete.

Liverpool have been linked to Bowen for close to a year now. The Reds seemed to be looking at attacking options last summer but nothing ever materialised.

Leicester City's Harvey Barnes and Leeds United's Raphinha were all linked but Liverpool eventually pulled the trigger and signed FC Porto's Luis Diaz in January.

Despite signing Diaz, it still seems like Liverpool are interested in another attacker to help challenge the traditional front three, especially if the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino leave in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking during the Liverpool vs West Ham United game on Saturday, as cited by the Metro, co-commentator and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he understands why the Reds are interested in Bowen, but he also says it will be 'difficult' to buy him.

"There’s talk of Liverpool’s interest in him and you can see why with the goals and assists he gets, but also the positions he takes up," said Carragher.

"Even that one [the position he took up before his injury], the position he gets in when Virgil van Dijk heads it back.

"He plays very narrow, as Liverpool’s wide players do.

"But I just think it’s always difficult for Liverpool to ever buy anyone in that position when you’ve got Mo Salah. Not just his quality, but he very rarely misses games."

Anfield Watch Verdict

The links to Bowen never seem to go away and rightfully so. He perfectly fits the mould of a Liverpool type signing.

He's 25-years-old, he can play across the front three, his price tag will be fairly affordable and he has a lot of room to improve under Jurgen Klopp.

The Englishman has also had an unbelievable season so far, scoring eights goals and grabbing eight assists.

Bowen has the second most goal contributions in the Premier League this season, only behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

Despite what Carragher said, the same was discussed about Diogo Jota and Diaz but both of them have come in and are fighting for a starting spot, so who knows, maybe the Englishman could challenge Salah if he gets the chance.
