Didi Hamann demands 'petty' Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to apologize to journalist

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann feels Jurgen Klopp behaved badly with James Pearce after the German refused to answer the journalist's question following the Reds' 3-0 defeat to Wolves last weekend.

The Liverpool boss flat-out refused to answer Pearce's question after suggesting that he wasn't happy with what the journalist had written about the club in recent weeks. It's unclear what Klopp was referring to and there have also been suggestions that the Liverpool manager may have mistaken Pearce for another journalist, but his snub quickly became a huge talking point on social media.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Hamann lambasted the Liverpool boss for his 'petty and strange' reaction to Pearce's question.

"I found it very strange and petty and what he has to realize is that James Pearce and his family get bombarded with abusive messages since that incident because Klopp didn't answer him.

"It was a perfectly good question to ask him and I think the least James deserves is an apology. Liverpool is a club that is based on respect and I think someone has to tell [Klopp] 'this is Liverpool Football Club and you can't do this.' We have campaigns against bullying and you can't have the Liverpool manager behave the way he did.

"I feel nobody at the club has the bottle to tell him, which I think they should. The way things are going at the moment, these things don't help him and they certainly don't help the club, which is above everything else. You can't have a situation where the manager disrespects a very well-respected journalist like he did to James Pearce."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

As mentioned earlier, it's unclear what Jurgen Klopp was referring to when he said he would prefer not to talk to James Pearce after everything the journalist wrote about the German tactician and the club.

That said, Klopp is usually very friendly with the media and is well-respected by journalists across the world, so for him to react in such a manner suggests he was indeed angered by something that was written about him.

Liverpool and Klopp have too many on-field issues to sort out currently, so the sooner they put this issue past them and move on, the better.
