Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson has praised teammate Darwin Nunez for his performance against RB Leipzig.

The Reds defeated the Bundesliga side 5-0 at the Red Bull Arena yesterday. Nunez scored four goals during the pre-season friendly.

With that being the case, Robertson had plenty of good things to say about the striker post-match.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the club's official website the following: “The second-half was the Darwin show which we are obviously delighted about. Getting off the mark and then adding another three, it’s not too bad. Hopefully there will be many more to come for him.

“It always takes time to get used to new signings, we have all been through it ourselves. It’s no different. There may be outside pressure on him in terms of the fee and everything like that, but to us it doesn’t matter.

“People have come in on small fees, on big fees, and (to us) it doesn’t matter.

“We know they have to take time to get used to our system and our style of play and how we want them to play. He is adapting, he is getting fitter and stronger like all of us are in pre-season.

“Today will do him a world of good. It will give him a lot of confidence in front of goal which is obviously so important for a striker.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We were delighted to see Nunez score four goals against RB Leipzig.

The Uruguay international only signed for the club from Benfica for a transfer fee of £67.50 million earlier this summer.

Therefore, Nunez is still adapting to his new environment. But, scoring four goals will certainly make him feel at home.

Hopefully Nunez can finish the pre-season strongly. The reality is, the Premier League starts at the beginning of August.

We need our new number nine to hit the ground running. Liverpool are competing against a world-class side in Manchester City.

So, if the Reds want to win the Premier League title, a player like Nunez will have to step up.
