Liverpool are eyeing up an absolute steal in a £40m transfer that could become a bargain in years to come.

Tuesday night's defeat at Anfield to Paris Saint Germain was not a pretty sight for Reds supporters. Liverpool were much better than in the first leg but on the whole they were still outplayed by the French side.

Based on the two games there is no denying PSG deserved to go through even if they had to rely on the cruel fate of penalties to advance.

But there will have been silver linings from the fallout of that defeat. Even though it doesn't feel like it now one positive will have been the stupendous performance of Willian Pacho.

The Ecuadorean defender was superb in limiting the impact of Liverpool's attackers. He stifled both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota and handled Mohamed Salah really well, too.

Pacho confirms why £40m Joel Ordonez would be a steal

His performance will bode really well for Liverpool because the club have reportedly set their sights on £40m valued Joel Ordonez, who is very much following the same pathway as Pacho.

Ordonez came through the renowned Independiente del Valle academy in Ecuador, the same academy that developed the likes of Moises Caicedo and of course Pacho himself.

Before moving to Paris Saint Germain, Pacho actually played for Independiente and then moved to Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

Ordonez is following along that path but he's playing for Club Brugge in Belgium and catching the eye.

Pacho's performance will have confirmed to Liverpool they are right to pursue Ordonez who many regard as the next big thing from Independiente after Pacho.

Three years younger than Pacho at just 20 years old Ordonez already has Champions League experience and has done well in the competition so far this season.

The Reds do need more depth in the centre-back department and Ordonez could be a really solid addition. At £40m he could be a bargain in this modern age of transfers with crazy inflated prices.
