David Coote’s SHOCKING Liverpool decisions including DISGRACEFUL Odegaard call
Premier League referee David Coote is under investigation after alleged comments about Liverpool. Here's why fans are so upset.
If we're being honest, fans of every club believe referees are biased against them. Liverpool, however, have felt particularly suspicious in recent years that certain referees aren't entirely fair.
What happened on Monday only supports that. A video was leaked on Twitter that allegedly shows Premier League referee David Coote talking disparagingly about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

Now, in the days of deepfakes and AI, you can never be 100% sure that seeing is believing when it comes to grainy internet videos. This does appear to be real, though, and the Premier League have now suspended Coote pending an investigation.
The man who certainly appears to be Coote is seen calling Liverpool s*** and then talking about how much he hates Jurgen Klopp. The video ends with a second man saying 'We hate Scousers'.
In other words, it's all incredibly damning. So why are Liverpool fans feeling so vindicated?
David Coote vs Liverpool
The simple answer is that Coote has been involved in some bizarre decisions to go against Liverpool in recent years. Like, incredibly damning ones.
Pickford on Van Dijk
The 'worst' was in a derby fixture back in 2020. Liverpool were the reigning champions and putting up their defence when everything got derailed against Everton.
A horror tackle by Jordan Pickford seriously injured Virgil van Dijk's knee, ruling him out for close to a year. Appallingly, VAR didn't intervene whatsoever and the Toffees' goalkeeper remained on the pitch.
Coote was that VAR.
Mane's offside call
Liverpool eventually drew that fixture but only because Sadio Mané saw one disallowed at the final whistle for offside. However, the lines shown after the game didn't actually look offside at all.
In fact, Mané looked very much onside. Coote, of course, was the VAR for that one - and it certainly didn't look good at the time.
Now it looks even worse.
Odegaard's handball
This is a more recent one. Liverpool drew 1-1 at Anfield against Arsenal last season but there was certainly controversy.
The Reds should have had a penalty after a Martin Odegaard handball. The Norwegian literally stopped the ball down low with his hand in the box - a bizarre one that in no way looked natural.
Coote was on VAR duty once again, prompting an outburst from Klopp after the final whistle.
"Yes I have seen it," Klopp said. "I am pretty sure someone will come to explain it to me why it was not a handball but I don't know how?
"I don't say that the ref can see it because I don't know where he was in that moment.
"But how can a guy in an office see that and not come to the conclusion that maybe, possibly it could be worth the referee having another look?"
Liverpool vs Aston Villa
And anyone who saw Liverpool against Aston Villa on Saturday night had a problem with the refereeing. Mo Salah was repeatedly fouled across the 90 minutes with nothing given.
The worst was when Leon Bailey brought him down while through on goal. Coote gave absolutely nothing - something that would be scandalous if Darwin Nunez hadn't picked the ball up and finished.
