After sitting on the bench for most of Liverpool's start to the season, Darwin Nunez capped off his first start with a remarkable strike against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

While Liverpool started slowly, Luis Diaz made full use of a couple of Bournemouth errors to earn the Reds a two-goal lead.

But from a run down the right-hand side of the pitch, Darwin Nunez managed to cut inside and score a beautiful goal to make it 3-0 before half-time.

This was Nunez's fourth goal against Bournemouth in his career, following on from his two goals away from home last season and his winning effort at Anfield in the team's winning Carabao Cup run.

Nunez's glorious return to the starting XI

In his first start under Arne Slot, Nunez showed just what he can offer to Liverpool, scoring his first Premier League goal since April.

The Uruguayan had a turbulent summer, with rumours about a potential transfer away from Anfield swirling and trouble brewing whilst on international duty at the Copa America.

Nunez has since received a ban that will see him miss Uruguay's next five international fixtures.

In the week before Liverpool's clash with Bournemouth, the 25-year-old made his Instagram account private following online abuse.

The eccentric striker seems to have recovered well however, and has reminded Liverpool supporters of just how good he can be.

Nunez had made three appearances off the bench before starting for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Saturday but now Slot will have a selection headache when it comes to picking the Reds' starting XI against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 25 September.

Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota had been the preferred front three for Slot but both Nunez and Cody Gakpo have now made strong claims for places in the starting XI.
