Darwin Nunez is now the Premier League's best match-winner

Darwin Nunez can claim to be the best match-winner in the Premier League after yet another winner against Nottingham Forest. Liverpool fans couldn't love him more.

Liverpool struggled to break down Nottingham Forest on Saturday, creating very few clear-cut chances across the 98 minutes. Fortunately, Darwin Nunez only needed one.

The Uruguayan stepped up to head home with 98 minutes on the clock. The goal gave Liverpool three points, guaranteeing them top spot when they take on Manchester City next weekend.

It's not the first time Liverpool have had to count on Nunez for a winner this season and according to Opta's Michael Reid, no player in the Premier League has more match-winners than the Uruguayan. He really is a player for when you need a goal.

Across the season, Nunez has two full-on match-winners - the last goal of a game that makes the difference. One was today, of course, and the other in the 93rd-minute at Newcastle United earlier in the campaign.

But when you include Nunez scoring the go-ahead goal that ultimately won the game, you can add strikes against West Ham United, Burnley, Bournemouth, and West Ham (again). It's an incredible trait and one that Andy Carroll really never had.

Nunez is unquestionably something special, but Liverpool fans know that. He has a knack for making things happen in a way that few players can boast and it usually results in him scoring.

That's now six times this season that Nunez has broken the deadlock and Liverpool have held onto the lead to win. It's extraordinary for a player who has nine goals.

In other words, the majority of Nunez's goals win games. He's not token goals in 4-0 wins, nor is he scoring in games where Liverpool lose. The no.9's goals earn points - lots of them.

If Liverpool can go on to win the title this season, Nunez will have made one of the absolute biggest contributions.
