Darwin Nunez has just fired back against his haters.

Despite finding life as Liverpool's striker particularly difficult, the Uruguayan has finally been able to break his drought in front of goal.

After missing a few chances early on, Nunez just put his head down and continued his work, while he was barraged by abuse from Southampton fans.

The chant in question was "just a sh*t Andy Carroll' in relation to his disappointing efforts in getting a shot on target and his haircut which is similar to that of the former Red.

However, after just 25 minutes, Nunez was put through in front of goal by a long ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Liverpool took the lead, following a cool, calm and collected finish by Nunez.

The fans continued to pester him with the same chant, but Nunez was able to put his finger to his ear to almost say to the fans, "I can't hear you," - a really playful way to deal with the situation.

He went on to shoosh the crowd and Liverpool's away fans sang the chant ironically in support of Nunez, before the crowd at St Mary's fell silent once again.

The goal went a long way to ensuring Liverpool beat Southampton and subsequently progress into the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.

The Reds are attempting to defend last season's trophy win which happened when their young injury-ravaged team managed to find a winner in extra time against Chelsea at Wembley.

They will be put into a draw for a two-legged semi-final tie, which will be played in January.
