Darwin Nunez - Forward injury doubt for Brighton fixture

Liverpool's injury list has added a new name as Uruguayan Darwin Nunez is facing a "race" to be fit for the Reds Premier League fixture away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph's Chris Bascombe, the 23-year-old striker may not be fully fit to face Roberto De Zerbi's side, with the injury only said to be "minor" and nothing serious, with the club at this moment in no time not specifying what the injury is.

MORE INJURY PROBLEMS

Nunez being injured continues to add to the injury list that the Reds have suffered this season. With Arthur Melo, Diogo Jota, James Milner, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk all out on the sidelines, Jurgen Klopp has now got to tend with Darwin Nunez now potentially being out of the clash at the Amex Stadium. However, it could be a chance for Reds to see Cody Gakpo play as the central number 9, a role that he is accustomed to - as that's where he played for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar.

AN INTRIGUING CLASH

Liverpool travel to Brighton with the Seagulls sitting one point and one place below Liverpool in the Premier League in 8th, whilst the Reds sit in 7th. This also could be the first of two games that these two sides play against each other this month, with a potential 4th round FA Cup tie at the Amex lying in wait for Jurgen Klopp's side, should they beat Wolves in the replay which is being played at Molineux on the 16th January at 7:45pm.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Liverpool are coming into this game at the Amex following the back of their 3-1 loss to Brentford and their 2-2 draw against Wolves in the FA Cup. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a response from his players, but with Darwin Nunez potentially out, it gives January signing Gakpo the chance to shine in the position he played in for his country at the World Cup, but as we all know, Brighton will not be an easy test for the Reds, with De Zerbi's side coming into this fixture after dismantling Everton 1-4 in the league and Middlesbrough 1-5 in the FA Cup.
