Danny Murphy believes Liverpool defender needs to leave the club
Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy has urged Neco Williams to depart the club.
The Liverpool and Wales right-back is behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at Liverpool.
With that being the case, Williams was loaned out to Fulham for the second-half of the 2021-22 campaign.
The 2022 World Cup is on the horizon (November) and Wales have qualified for the tournament.
Therefore, Murphy believes that Williams would be better off leaving the club and playing regular senior football ahead of the World Cup.
“I think so (pushing for a move ahead of the World Cup would be a good idea),” he told talkSPORT (22:30). “That would make perfect sense.
“You wouldn’t want to miss out on this wonderful opportunity by just not getting game time, even if it means just a loan.
“He did well actually against Ukraine (last Sunday). In terms of personnel motivation, when you are looking to succeed in your career as a young man and you are trying to, either find a club or establish yourself at a club, it gives you more incentive.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We agree with Murphy. Alexander-Arnold is a world-class talent. The right-back is a defender by trade, but he is superb going forward.
Alexander-Arnold has scored 12 goals and registered 62 assists in 226 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
Therefore, he is known as one of the most exciting talents in the game. Also, Alexander-Arnold is only 23 years of age.
Williams won't be replacing the Scouser in the short and long-term. So, a move away from Anfield would be the best thing for the Wales international.
You wouldn't want to miss out on a position at the World Cup because you're not playing regular senior football ahead of the tournament.
So, we fully expect Williams to secure a move away from Liverpool before the 2022-23 campaign gets underway.
